Instructor Training
The American Heart Association Instructor course is designed to designed to prepare AHA instructors to disseminate the science, skills, and philosophy of resuscitation programs to participants enrolled in AHA courses. There is no question that instructors are the key element in the AHA training network.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for individuals competent and comfortable with CPR & AED skills. Instructor Candidates must hold current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider certification for BLS instructor, or a Heartsaver CPR AED First Aid card for General Instructor to attend each course.
American Heart Association instructors must become established and align with a Training Center to teach courses.
We allow alignment with our Training Center, however our policy is that all aligned BLS instructors have experience in healthcare a licensed practitioner. A fee for alignment with us is imposed to cover needed insurances and other items. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE ALIGNMENT. If for any reason we choose not to align you, we will refund the alignment fee.
Instructor Certification Process
- Online Instructor Essentials: This is your first step. You must purchase and complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online through the American Heart Association website.This must be completed prior to attending the instructor course.
- Instructor Training: Instructor training is conducted by a C4CPR faculty member at one of our locations. Participants learn about the Mission of the American Heart Association, goals for Emergency Cardiovascular Care, affiliation with a Training Center, and the programs that they will be able to instruct as an AHA instructor. Participants will evaluate skills being performed to become familiar with the skills testing process.
- Skills and Content Competency: Following the instructor training, candidates will attend a Skills Testing session by appointment at a C4CPR Training Center. The instructor candidate will be tested on skills competency and will complete the written exams for provider and Instructor.
- Observation: Instructor candidates observe CPR class(es) taught by C4CPR instructors until they feel comfortable teaching the course independently. This step can be conducted at any C4CPR Training Center.
- Monitoring (Only if Aligned): Instructor candidates teach a course independently under the supervision of C4CPR Training Center Faculty. Faculty will evaluate instructor candidate performance against a rubric of requirements from the American Heart Association. Successful monitoring will result in issuance of a Instructor certification from the American Heart Association.
This step may be completed at a C4CPR Training Center (included) or off-site for an additional fee. - Affiliation: Instructors must join an existing training site. All instructors must be affiliated with an American Heart Association Training Center to issue certification cards for courses they instruct.
We allow alignment with our Training Center for those qualified for an additional fee.
